Going to the Movies: a 'Win-Win'

You work hard, but your to-do list never seems to get any shorter. Now it's time to take a break and enjoy yourself. It's your time. Take it.

A few weeks ago my family took me to see The King’s Speech for my birthday, and I loved it. Not just the movie, though Mr. Darcy (Colin Firth) has always done it for me. But what I loved just as much was the experience. Being able to completely disconnect for two hours and become absorbed in the movie was such a treat.

I don’t get to the movies often, and I go even less often to movies I would actually choose myself. It seems like for every King’s Speech-type movie, I’ve had to sit through a Twilight, which if you’ve seen Twilight you’ll agree is a bit like having multiple root canals.

While at the for King’s Speech I saw a trailer for Win Win, a new movie which opens today. The trailer was fantastic and left me eager to see the film itself. It stars Paul Giamatti and Amy Ryan, and looks like a touching comedy.

Giamatti plays a lawyer who moonlights as a wrestling coach, and seems to find a star for his team in an unexpected place. What’s great is that the film is playing at the Dedham Community Theatre. I love being able to see a movie in the Square. We’re so lucky to still have an independent theatre, particularly one that allows you to have a beer or wine and popcorn with real butter while you watch the movie!
