Escape to Whole Foods for Local Samples or a Taste of Italy

You work hard, but your to-do list never seems to get any shorter. Now it's time to take a break and enjoy yourself. It's your time. Take it.

When I turned 16, one of my chores was to do the weekly grocery shopping. I would organize a list for the week, clip my coupons and head to the grocery store to get lost in the aisles for an hour or two every Sunday afternoon. It was a great chore; I learned the art of budgeting and reading labels, and every so often rewarded myself with a bottle of nail polish on my mother’s dime. I loved it!

Even now I sometimes find a trip to the grocery store to be quite relaxing, particularly if that store is and they are having one of their samples events. This weekend, they have two exciting things planned.

On Friday, they have invited many of their local vendors to display their artisan food items. Companies you know, like Cabot Coop, will be there, as well as some you might not, like Rhode Island Rocks, which makes delicious chocolate pretzel candies. Yes, I know this because I’ve sampled them before at Whole Foods.

On Saturday, the Dedham Whole Foods will be participating in a company-wide event, in which every Whole Foods will crack open a wheel of Parmigiano Reggiano at 3:00 p.m. It should be fun to watch, and afterward they will be offering samples of the cheese with wine pairings. Bring your appetite!
