Escape to the Square for Girls Night Out

You work hard, but your to-do list never seems to get any shorter. Now it's time to take a break and enjoy yourself. It's your time. Take it.

As I write this I could truly use an escape. Every year I get excited for spring, and every year my excitement is quickly dampened by the realization that spring is for people who don’t have kids. Or don't have children that don’t play sports, or do dance, or whatever else it is that keeps kids so busy these days. In our family, it’s baseball, lacrosse, soccer and dance, not to mention piano and saxophone.

Lucky for me, the merchants of Dedham Square recognize my desperation, and probably hope that desperation will make me more willing to spend money on myself. Lucky for them, they are right.

So Thursday night I plan to head to Dedham Square for “Ladies Night Out.”  Restaurants and shops in the Square will be staying open late and almost all are offering specials for the ladies. They do this every spring and it’s always a lot of fun – like a rotating party where you keep running into old friends and making new ones as you bond over a glass of wine and coveted necklace or trinket.

I plan to hit Terra Spa to stock up on Aveda products (20 percent off), Wardles and the Dedham Exchange for Mother’s Day cards and gifts, and of course Maribu and Nest for myself.

If I can remember to do it, I’ll wear an outfit that I have been trying to accessorize. Jen at Maribu has a great eye, and I know she’ll help me find a good necklace I can wear to work. The real question is whether to get a drink before or after shopping. I’m thinking I should start at Deli After Dark (50 percent off an appetizer) and hit Isabella’s or Kouzina’s afterward (both offering a free dessert with entrée.) Really, in Dedham you can’t go wrong.
