Don't Get Blown Away! NWS Issues Wind Advisory in Effect

Dedham, and all of New England, is under a wind advisory today in anticipation of 20 to 30 MPH winds and possible 50 MPH gusts.

Keep a hand on your hat today as winds might get up to dangerous levels.

The National Weather Service has issued a wind advisory for all of southern New England, including Dedham, starting at 7 a.m. this morning and remaining in effect until midnight tonight in anticipation of possible "damaging winds." 

"The National Weather Service in Taunton has issued a wind advisory ... for strong to damaging winds," the advisory states.

According to NWS there is a chance for southwest winds between 20 to 30 miles per hour with possible gusts as fast as 50 miles per hour today. Winds will increase in strength through the morning and will be the strongest during the afternoon and evening.

"These winds will be capable of downing tree limbs and branches, [possibly] causing isolated power outages."

Driving may also be difficult, especially for large vehicles with high profiles, the NWS stated. 

Wind advisories are issued by the NWS when sustained winds are expected to be between 31 and 39 miles per hour or gusts will be between 46 and 57 miles per hour.
