The Dedham Cultural Council will meet tonight at the to discuss grant applications. As in years past, there are more applications for grants than there is money to be granted. All applicants are encouraged to come and present their requests for grants at 6 p.m. tonight.
Guitar Lessons
The Justin House will open up guitar lesson slots for those interested. These lessons can either be private or by group. The fee is $15 for group lessons and $20 for private lessons. This is a great chance to learn the guitar while helping the Justin House Ministry at the same time. As District Works Kinks on Bullying Policy, Parents Hear Prevention Techniques
Andrew Zitoli, principal of Millis Middle School, spoke last night at the Dedham Middle School, on the awareness of bullying, reaching out by kids to kids and adults to kids, and how schools should respond to reports of bullying.

Parents who attended heard about how bullying can happen through texting, Facebook, Twitter and many other public sources that make it difficult for officials to crack down on. Mike Tavares, a parent, said he thought the presentation was really meaningful. "This is a step in the right direction," he said.
Kim Stack, a parent, said kids themselves play a large part in stopping cyber bullying, and teaching the leadership skills to handle incidents of bullying need to start at home, and she said she hopes that in the future we can prevent potential bullying as a whole before it starts.
Two Officers Promoted
Two Dedham police officers climbed a rank late last week as Town Clerk Paul Munchbach swore them into their new positions. Frank McMillian, a 14-year veteran of the Dedham force, was promoted to sargeant. He is the only member of DPD that serves as a SWAT team member, and has worked as a firearms instructor.
Mark Black, with 21 years of work on the Dedham police under his belt, earned the rank of lieutenant. Black now will take control of the evidence room and crime reporting, in addition to other administrative duties.
