5 Things You Can't Do in Dedham

From swine to sidewalk horseback riding and sledding to silly string - here is our list of things you're not allowed to do in Dedham.

We here at Dedham Patch noticed that #5thingsyoucantdo was among the top topics trending today on Twitter. So, in honor of the trend, we searched the town bylaws and found our picks for five things you can't do in Dedham.

  1. Even before the swine flu epidemic, Dedham must've known the dangers. Residents cannot "keep or maintain any swine within the limits of the Town of Dedham, except in accordance with a permit from the Board of Health." Residents also can't keep a "piggery" or slaughterhouse within town limits.

  2. No monkeying around allowed in Dedham. No one can climb a tree on a public way or on public property (excpet for town worksers, utility company employees and sub-contractors) without permission from the chief of police.

  3. Kids can't sled on a public road or sidewalk - not matter how good the hill or deep the snow. Of course, they could receive permission from the Board of Selectmen.

  4. Keep the horses on the roads. Riders are not allowed to ride horses on the sidewalks - and if it is a stolen horse, will come after you.

  5. Pranksters have to go outside of Dedham to get their hands on some of the classics. Businesses are prohibited from selling anything named or marketed as "stink bombs," "smoke bombs," or "silly string."
