5 Things to Do This Weekend: July 29-31

Watch a free movie, cheer on neighbors at a softball game and tour Dedham history.

It’s Thursday, and you’ve got no idea what you’ll do for the weekend.Dedham Patch is coming to the rescue. Celebrate summer with an outdoor movie, a little history, community baseball, crafts, and of course a hop in the pool!

  1. Family Movie Night: Air Bud Seventh Inning Fetch
    Where/When: Friday from 7:15ish to 10ish (movie starts at dusk) at  Why go:  Bring your blankets and popcorn – it’s time for a family movie on the lawn of DCH. It’s a great way to start the weekend!
    Pricing: Free.

  2. Take a visit to the Where/When: Saturday, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. (open May-October, check website for hours on other days)
    Why go: What better way to comprehend Dedham’s 375th birthday this year than with a visit to the only structure in Dedham which survives from the time of Contentment’s founding? Tours start every hour on the hour; the last tour of the day starts at 4 p.m.
    Pricing: $10 for AAA members and seniors, $12 for adults and kids aged 13 or over; $6 for kids aged 6-12, free for kids under 6.

  3. Where/When: Sunday from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. at Why go:  Members of the Dedham police force will square off against members from local community groups: Oakdale Square Alliance, Mother Brook Community Group, Dedham Square Circle, and Manor Neighborhood Watch Group. Come cheer for your favorite Dedham personality in this fun community event! 
    Pricing: Free

  4. Community Swim
    Where/When: Sunday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Pool
    Why go: By Sunday the rain should be gone. What better way to spend a sunny Sunday than lounging at the pool? DCH opens to the public on the last Sunday of every month so pack your sunscreen!
    Pricing: $10/person or $20/family

  5. Sit and Knit
    Where/When: Sunday from noon – 4 p.m. at Why go: Bring your knitting or crochet project and enjoy an afternoon of relaxed crafting camaraderie. As Eileen Kelly, proprietor of Sheep Skate says, its “a great way to meet other fiber folks to learn and get inspired from each other.”
