5 Things To Do This Weekend: July 22 - 24

It’s Thursday, and you’ve got no idea what you’ll do for the weekend. Dedham Patch is coming to the rescue. Check our picks for the best activities to hit and new bars/restaurants/shops to explore this weekend!

  1. Where/When: Friday, 6:30 p.m. - 7:30 p.m., Why go: This fun event will benefit Team Chuckle, a partner team of the Pan Mass Challege bike-a-thon for the Jimmy Fund. Leo Landry, illustrator and author of Grin and Bear It, will be in attendance, and audience participation is encouraged for this communal comedy show. Bring your favorite joke to tell!
    Pricing: $1 donation, all ages. Pajamas acceptable attire.

  2. Free Fun Friday at Franklin Park Zoo!
    Where/When: Friday, 10 a.m. – 5 p.m., Franklin Park Zoo
    Why go: Reclaim your childhood wonder at the amazing spectrum of animals living in this lovely setting. Gorillas, butterflies, kangaroos, zebras – there’s something for everyone.
    Pricing: Free (on Friday only)


  3. Where/When: Friday, 7:05 p.m. game, Fenway Park
    Why go: What better way to enjoy a Sox game than sitting with your Dedham friends and neighbors?
    Pricing: $28/each. Tickets are running out fast. Call Assistant Town Administrator Nancy Baker at 781-751-9100 for information. A bus with a limited number of seats available will also leave from the St. Mary’s parking lot at 6:15 p.m. and return after the game. The bus ride costs $12.   4. Where/When: Saturday, 9 a.m. – 1 p.m. at the Why go:  This sounds great for all ages – BioBlitz is an interactive event where adults and children can explore the outdoors and seek out species for identification. The goal is to tag and identify 375 species, such as plants, lichens, fungi, mammals, insects, birds, spiders, reptiles, and amphibians. Events scheduled for the day include nature walks led by world-renowned naturalist Peter Alden, a kid-friendly nature scavenger hunt along the banks of the Charles River, information sharing by field specialists who will educate participants about wetlands, vernal pools, meadows, New England wildflowers, and native and invasive species. A display of live animals, and natural curiosities will also be a part of the festivities.

  5. Where/When: Sunday, 5 - 10 p.m., atWhy go:  The food is still great, and the atmosphere is even better!
    Pricing: Salads and appetizers $6-12, entrees $15-25, though big portions allow for sharing!
