5 Things to Do This Weekend: April 9-10

Put on your weekend boots and get ready to stomp away the week's monotony. Here are a few things to do to release some of that hard-earned tension.

It’s Thursday, and you’ve got no idea what you’ll do for the weekend.

Dedham Patch is coming to the rescue. We’ve got the best bets for your done-work-outta-here time. Check our picks for the activities to hit and new bars/restaurants/shops to explore.


  1. Where/When: Saturday at the from 2 to 3 p.m.
    Why go: To be educated and entertained at the expense of seeing some live theater as performed by Theatre Espresso. Written for grades three and higher.
    Pricing: $2 adults, children free.
  2. Opening Reception: “Family Portraits” Exhibition
    Where/When: 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at the Foster Gallery
    Why go:  To appreciate the works of featured family portrait artists with the assistance of curator Evelyn Ryds.  Also, light refreshments will be provided.
    Pricing: Free
  3. Half Wiggum with Mark Morris
    Where/When:  Saturday at 9 p.m. at .
    Why go:  To support local musicians and hear some acoustic renditions of popular favorites, all in the comfort of an easygoing social setting.
    Pricing:  Plenty of covers, but no cover charges.
  4. and Jane Eyre
    Where/When:  At the Friday and Saturday; Win Win: (12:00, 2:10) 4:30, 7:00, 9:15.  Jane Eyre: (12:00, 2:20) 4:45, 7:15, 9:30
    Why go:  To enjoy some independent cinema not likely found in the typical blockbuster-oriented multiplex.
    Pricing:  General admission - $9.50; seniors over 62, matinees and children under 12 - $7.50.

  5. Where/When: Sunday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on High Street.
    Why go: To shop at the only market that’s both open only one day a week and stocked with organic produce and other specialty goods.  Also, Diane Forti, Dedham resident and Puddingstone manager, will be there showcasing regional books and collectables.
    Pricing: Varies.
