5 Things to Do This Weekend: April 30-May 1

This weekend brings the transition from one spring season to the next and hopefully plenty of fine weather to observe whatever should unfold. Plenty of spring-and-sunshine-related activities are abound in Dedham, take a look.

It’s Thursday, and you’ve got no idea what you’ll do for the weekend. Dedham Patch is coming to the rescue. We’ve got the best bets for your done-work-outta-here time. Check our picks for the activities to hit and new bars/restaurants/shops to explore. 

  1. May Pole on the Green
    Where/When: Sunday at 11 a.m. at the
    Why go: To welcome the dawn of spring in this time-honored ritual and pray for a flowery May (April has sure been showery enough).
    Pricing: Free.


  2. Where/When: Saturday from 10 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at the Why go:  Experts from Grogan & Company Fine Art Auctioneers and Appraisers will be there to appraise antiques, books, quilts, jewelry, etc.   The public is encouraged to bring in all items of interest to be evaluated for a nominal fee.
    Pricing: $10 per item, $25 for 3; first one on the house with $50 DHS “family” membership.

  3. Where/When: Sunday from 9:45 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Why go:  To participate in the healthiest kind of competition, a footrace through scenic Dedham; Children’s Ramble in the morning, after-race party at the Estate to follow. Bonus: cash reward for victors.
    Pricing: $40 entry fee with registration.

  4. “Tequila” Tim Curry
    Where/When:  9:30 P.M. at this Saturday.
    Why go:   To soak your feet in the cool sounds of a tropically-inclined acoustic musician.
    Pricing: Entertainment always free.

    Where/When: Gather unused prescriptions and drop them off at the from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., and then head to  between 9 a.m. and 12 p.m. to get rid of your outdated electronics.
    Why go: To safely empty out your cabinets and basements of potentially hazardous items.
    Pricing: Medication disposal is free; some fees apply for recycling electronics.
