    Why go: To meet author Anne M. Logan as she signs copies of her new book I Guess My Mother is Pretty Special, just in time for Mother’s Day.

  2. 3rd Annual Dawg-a-pella
    Where/When: Friday from 7:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. at .
    Why go:  To support a good cause and attend a night of vocal harmony; proceeds will go towards ongoing New Orleans support.
    Pricing: $5 at the front desk; $7 at the door.

  3. Dedham Goes Pink
    Where/When: Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. in Dedham Square.
    Why go:  To show support for the fight against breast cancer, and the local team participating in the 3-Day Walk, which benefits the Susan G. Komen Foundation. See the “pink oil truck,” firetruck,  and meet some firefighters; kids music and entertainment will be provided by Discover Music and Art.

  4. Half Wiggum with Mark Morris
    Where/When Saturday evening at .
    Why go:   To hear acoustic covers from a team of merry strummers.
    Pricing: Entertainment always free.
  5. Of Gods and Men
    Where/When: Starting Friday at the -(12:00, 2:20) 4:45, 7:15, 9:30.
    Why go: To catch an obscure flick while it’s around; in French (with English subtitles), the film is about French Christian monks coexisting harmoniously with Muslim brothers in North Africa, whose peace is disrupted as a group of foreign workers is brutalized by an Islamic fundamentalist group. Loosely based on a true story.
    Pricing: General admission $9.50; seniors, children, and matinees $7.50.
