30th Annual James Joyce Ramble 10k Results

A first time Ramble runner won for the men.

Thousands gathered on the grounds of the Endicott Estate in Dedham Sunday afternoon for the 30th annual James Joyce 10k Ramble.

The Ramble held special meaning this year in the wake of the Boston Marathon bombings that took place April 15.

Many runners and onlookers wore Boston Strong tee shirts and Boston Athletic Association bibs. The start and finish lines had portraits of the four victims of the terrorist attack, 8-year-old Martin Richard, 26-year-old Sean Collier, 29-year-old Krystle Campbell and 23-year-old Lu Lingzi.

The men's winner was Amos Sang, 24, of Springfield, Mass. with a time of 29:25. Chemtai Rionotukei, 26, of Lansing, Michigan was the first woman to finish with a time of 33:34. Rionotukei finished 8th overall.

After the race Sang, a first time Ramble runner, talked about the event and the difficulty of the course.

“It was good, it was nice weather out there. It started, came out real good and came back, same thing,” Sang said. “I was not expecting the way the course went out. It was kind of difficult, a few hills. When you run on a slope you go up down, up down it’s kind of hard to keep up with the same pace.”

Sang said he did not run in the Boston Marathon this year because he was in a race in Virginia the day before but had friends who were in Boston at the time of the bombings.

"It was shocking because I have friends that race in the marathon. I had to get on the phone and ask them how they are doing and all of them said they were fine," he said.

After the race, runners gathered outside the Estate building where they ate pasta, drank beer and talked with one another.
