The Dedham Co-Ed Softball League is off and running

If you happen to stop by either Condon Park or Memorial Field on a Sunday Morning most likely you will see some fun, spirited softball taking place. Dedham Co-Ed Softball was started four years ago. The league usually has between 4 to 6 teams playing and has been a constant in the Fall ever since. I founded the league because for years I played in the men's league that Park and Recreation runs and girls who would come to watch would constantly ask, why can't we play? Well I thought why can't they so I started this up with a little help from Park and Recreation and some other folks around town and here we are.
We don't play for trophies or anything like that. We play for fun and for bragging rights and to just have a good time. Our only fee is to pay the umpire who comes down to officiate. You can't do better than that. There all leagues out there that charge $1000+ to play. At the end of the day there should be a place where you don't have to break the bank to go out and do something you enjoy. Thanks to Park and Recreation we have that opportunity.
We prefer to have Dedham residents play 75% of the players in the league are from Dedham. The few that aren't either have friends here or work here. New teams and players are always welcome to join. We have four teams playing this fall and we will be playing until mid November. So far the season has been very successful and the games have been very competitive.
Last Sunday Old School and the VFW post hooked up for a terrific game at Condon. The lead changed hands 4 times and despite taking a late lead in the top of the 7th Old School just couldn't hold the lead and the VFW came from behind to win 12-11. In the late game our defending league champions Cappy's edged out The Purple Cobra's 19-14.
