Dedham Girls Softball 10U Squad Playing some great Summer Ball!

Dedham 10U Girls Softball Hockomock League Update

If it’s July, its summer softball time in Dedham.  This year’s Dedham 10U girls team again takes on the best in the area as they compete in the “A” Division of the highly competitive Hockomock League.  The twelve girls selected to represent Dedham this year are Ciara Bolotte, Colleen Corsi, Caroline Coyle, Maggie Delaney, Alyssa Eliot, Ally Flagg, Kassidy Hickey, Rylee Keyes, Brooke McMurtry, Taylor Peckham, Julia Salemy and Sydney Salemy.

The girls started the season away against perennial powerhouse Plainville.  Kassidy Hickey took the mound for Dedham and through two innings the score remained scoreless.  In the third, leadoff walks by Brooke McMurtry, Lucia Florio and Sydney Salemy led to RBI hits by Ciara Bolotte and Hickey gave Dedham a 2-0 lead.  The scored remained the same through 5 as Hickeys great pitching was backed up with strong defense by Rylee Keyes, Colleen Corsi, Taylor Peckham, Alyssa Eliot and Maggie Delaney.  A hit by Hickey and RBI by Julia Salemy in the 6th guaranteed the victory.  Next up was Sharon on a hot afternoon in Dedham.   Three shutout innings by starter Caroline Coyle were followed by two solid innings of relief by Colleen Corsi.  But the story of the Dedham was the Dedham bats.  Hits were recorded up and down the lineup, especially timely hits by Sydney Salemy, Rylee Keyes, and Julia Salemy.  Coyle was on base four times and scored four runs.  The RBIs came from Ally Flagg with a triple, Alyssa Eliot with a home run and Ciara Bolotte with a Grand Slam.  The result was never in doubt as Dedham prevailed 15-6.

The next two games were tough matches for the Dedham squad.  Down a few players due to vacations coupled with extreme heat contributed to two losses.  Away at Bellingham, Coyle and Bolotte pitched well but were unable to completely silence the opponent’s bats.  The Bellingham starter brought the heat and gave the Dedham lineup some difficulties.  But rallies in the third and fifth produced runs.   Hits by Corsi, Keyes, and McMurtry led to runs and Flagg had 2 RBI.  The following night at home saw Attleboro bring their A game to Sugrue Field.  Coyle started the game on the mound to be later relieved with two innings of great relief by Bolotte.  Their pitching was backed up by great plays in the field by Eliot, Peckham and Keyes.   The bats came alive for Dedham in the third despite the hot weather and walks by Julia and Sydney Salemy led to a 2 RBI double by Flagg and an RBI walk by Coyle. In the sixth, Bolotte stroked a leadoff home run with fueled a walk by Salemy to again be driven in by Flagg.  Those runs were not enough as Attleboro prevailed 11-4.

This past week saw Dedham return to winning form as they faced Norfolk at home.  After a rain delay, Caroline Coyle pitched a complete game with 13 strikeouts.  Her pitching was backed up by keys plays from Keyes, Peckham and Eliot.  Dedham started the game off strong at the plate.  After 3 walks, Julia Salemy cleared the bases with a double and an error allowed her to score to make it 4-3 Dedham.  A run scored by Keyes in the second driven in by Delaney brought it to a 5-5 tie.  That tie was broken in the third after a single by Coyle was followed by a RBI single by Bolotte followed by another Julia Salemy RBI.  Dedham was swinging the bats well with strong plate appearances by Corsi, Peckham and McMurtry.  Dedham took the field in the last inning leading 7-6, and Coyle was able to strike out the side to seal the win.   Hockomock League play continues through mid-July followed by playoffs.  Come cheer the girls on some night at Sugrue Field.  Schedule can be found at www.hgssl.org .
