Dedham Girls Softball Heading Down the Stretch

Dedham Girls Softball comes out of Memorial Day ready to finish up the homestretch of the 2012 Spring Season!

Coming Down the Homestretch in DGS Spring 2012

Despite the “April Showers” continuing into June and wreaking havoc with games in all sports, a couple of games were played over the last week in Dedham Girls Softball. The 14U Attorney Chris Cawley Shufflers made their 2nd jaunt to Westwood to take on a WGS team in “interleague” play. Despite being severely shorthanded, the girls played one of their best overall games of the season. Offense was early and often for the Cawley Crew as Corinne Downey’s rope to left in the first inning was the beginning of her 4-4 day that included 4 runs scored and a home run to boot. Also joining her in the “multi-stat” category was Sophie Boudette as she slapped out a couple of hits and touched home a couple of times to open up an early lead they would not relinquish. Continuing on through the game found the gang on their feet 3 times as 10U call up Caroline Coyle showed that she was ready for 14U prime-time with a pair of hits and some stellar base running that helped produce 3 runs herself. The buffet of runs wouldn’t subside as Roisin Glynn and Ashley Gilarde both started and ended innings with runs of their own after solid at bats and singles, while Alyssa Wisniewski smoked the ball in all at bats and both produced her own runs and a pair of RBI’s to boot. One of those batted in was Hannah Pioccone after she herself had driven in a couple of runs and slapped the ball all around the diamond. Two things of note as the game came to a close. First was Westwood’s great sportsmanship as they helped “fill” our defense with some great plays and quality effort, but, on a somber note, budding superstar Maya Acosta twisted her knee and ended her season prematurely while flying on the bases. Always the trooper she was wishing the team well while leaving and waiting for her diagnosis which happily will only be a few weeks on the DL. Great Job by all and we are thinking of you Maya!
