DEDHAM GIRLS 14U SOFTBALL SCORES BIG THIS SPRING WITH GREAT PLAY ON FIELD!

While still a touch brisk as the sun goes down every night, the play on the fields of Dedham Girls Softball has been nothing but HOT as the 14U squads take on each other and squads from our great neighbors of Parkway Girls Softball. Leowen, Sugrue, Sullivan, and Churchill fields are getting plenty of use (and great upkeep from Park and Rec  and the great leadership of Bob Stanley!) and seeing plenty of quality softball as the 3 14U teams are battling each other and various PGSL teams these past few and upcoming weeks.

Melissa Egan’s Needham Bank is having fun and improving their skills by leaps and bounds. Led on the hill by their 3 aces Molly Egan, Julia “Smokin” Holton, and Gianna “G-Money” Sciarappa, Needham Bank has been tough to hit against every inning as there is no letdown on the mound. In the field Emma Pelkey and Danielle “D-Mac” McMurtry are flashing some quality leather to snag whatever may actually get hit off the hurlers. Behind the plate are Vanessa “VT” Tanetta and Kayla Romig, and between the 2 of them runners are petrified to try and steal. However you have to score to eventually win, and Maya Acosta, Kayleigh Spencer, and Shannon Briscoe are following the lead of Jillian Girard as they are spraying ball over the field. Who are they driving in you may ask? Megan Sulinski and Nicole Crisafulli and putting their OBP tow work helping to “deposit” runs for the Needham Bank score sheet! Just like a any good business, Needham Bank also has great help from Ken “Stats-Man” Crisafulli and Dave Engdahl as this is a team that enjoys practicing early and often and will be disappointed when their season is over!

Andrews Trucking has had some great battles with Needham Bank as the arms of Sophie Boudette and Jess Andrews have been mowing down both DGS & PGSL batters. 40 feet away, the catching position for the Andrews Trucking “Queens” (the girls chose it!) might be the best in town, as Alyssa “A-Bomb” Wisniewski and Corinne “Snoop” Downey take turns putting on backstop clinics. Andrews also needs to score runs to win, and the bats and legs of Maya Black-Finn, O’Mayra Hernandez-Ortolaza, and Caitlyn Alves have been on fire from day one as the squad has no trouble scoring early and often. Defensively, Hannah “HP” Pioccone and Charlene “El Beano” Kelly have taken turns with highlight reel plays to keep the opposition from scoring as much as they would like. However, the most exciting thing for Coaches Charlie “Chuckles” Kelly and Steve “F-Lee” Boudette and the Andrews Trucking ballers has been the play of their “newbies”. Laura Berry, Danica Dignan, & Jackie Fenore had little to no softball experience back when they joined, but they are playing and learning the game like “seasoned vets” as Andrews Trucking mixes the old and the new to make smiles to go along with wins on the fields!

The last squad “repping” the 14U DGSL squads is “Frankona” Bolotte and Joe Aiello’s powerhouse, the Attorney Chris Cawley squad. The thunder is brought from the mound by the great pair of Megan Peckham and Maeve Bolotte as they are shutting down hitters and lighting up radar guns. Ava Bevilacqua holds down the fort behind the dish with a confidence few can match, and while clearly teams will make contact, Ashley Gilarde, Jackie Grandy, Francesca “LuLu” Gentile, and Isabelle “Izzy” Cucinotta anchor the Attorney Chris Cawley defense. Defense like this puts scoring runs at a minimum for the opponents even when they make contact against the Attorney Chris Cawley hurlers. It isn’t all defense though for the girls of Attorney CC, however, as Kayla Gloss, Cassidy Aiello, Erin Gilmore, and Alexandria Ruidiaz-Chaisson have helped the girls light up the scoreboard on a nightly basis with great at-bats and hustle on the base-paths.

There is still a few weeks left in the season with more than a few chances to see the Needham Bank, Andrews Trucking, and Attorney Chris Cawley teams battle it out while displaying great sportsmanship, great softball, and great memories from what has been an awesome “DGS Spring 2014” season so far. Drop by any field on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday after 6 pm and take a look at what Dedham Girls Softball has to offer!
