10U Dedham Girls Softball makes Father's Day special in Abington

Facing some of the top 10U teams in the area, the DGSL 10U team battled it's way through 6 games over the weekend with the final game being a championship battle against a NH power!

DGSL 10U Gives Father's Day Gift of Tourney Run in Abington!!

13 teams from around New England competed in this past weekend’s 25th Annual Abington Father’s Day Invitational Tournament.  The Dedham 10U squad played three games on Saturday without a loss – a 5-5 tie vs. Walpole, a 6-4 win vs. Nipmuck and a 7-0 shutout of host Abington.

Strong pitching performances were turned in by Kassidy Hickey vs Walpole and Caroline Coyle vs Nipmuck.  Ciara Bolotte brought the heat in the complete game shutout of frequent tourney champ Abington.

The Dedham bats were alive as well as big hits were delivered all day by Alaina Aiello, Ally Flagg, Hickey, Coyle, Maggie Delaney and Julia Salemy (who hit a home run that may still be rolling!).

Early Dedham leads were held by the strong play in the field by Lucia Florio and Brooke McMurtry including some superb outfield catches by Sydney Salemy and Colleen Corsi.

The weather was warm but that did not stop the catching trip of Bolotte, Flagg and Aiello, routinely making key stops and throwing out base runners.   A strong day one led to a bye and a 3 seed for Dedham in the elimination stage of the the tourney and that brought on a rematch with host Abington.

The result was no better for Abington as Dedham posted a 4-0 shutout.

Hickey pitched 3 great innings, with one inning of scoreless relief turned in by Caroline Coyle.

Key defensive plays by Florio and Delaney and timely hits by the Salemy twins and Corsi led to a semi-final berth against #2 seed Swansea.

In the semis Kassidy Hickey took the mound once again with Flagg behind the plate.  An early 1-0 Dedham lead evaporated in the 3rd inning and Swansea pulled ahead 2-1.

In the top of the last inning the Dedham bats came alive again and a rally led by the top of the lineup, including hits by Coyle, Bolotte and Aiello saw 4 runs cross the plate and led to a 5-2 Dedham lead.  A quick 1-2-3 bottom of the inning and Dedham was in the Championship Game.

Their opponent was #1 seed Londonderry Lightning, a seasoned club team from NH that had destoyed all comers to this point early in every game.

Dedham once again rode their workhorse once again and Hickey turned in another complete game.  Londonderry had their own ace and through five innings Londonderry held a tight 7-5 lead.

In the sixth, however, thye dream started to fade as Londonderry was able to extend to a 12-5 lead that Dedham could not overcome in the bottom half of the inning despiet its best efforts, thus ending their stellar run.

Coaches John Coyle, Tom Salemy, Joe Florio, Steve Delaney and Director Frank Bolotte could not have been prouder of these girls.  They showed talent, toughness, resiliency and good sportsmanship on their run to the finals, a run as well as Dedham has done in over a handful of years at the 10 level.

The coaches are confident this was just the start for this squad as they move on to tournaments in Dighton and Sharon and compete in the summer Hockomock League.

Don't hesitate to visit Sugrue Field this summer and catch the following players as they continue to compete and wear their Dedham softball uniforms with pride, sportsmanship, and talent! Caroline Coyle, Ciara Bolotte, Kassidy Hickey, Julia Salemy, Alaina Aiello, Ally Flagg, Sydney Salemy, Maggie Delaney, Brooke McMurtry,Colleen Corsi, and Lucia Florio round out this great group of players that Coaches Coyle, Salemy, Florio, and Keyes will have the honor of working with all summer!
