Recall Issued on Farm Rich Quesadillas, Mozzarella Bites and Other Frozen Foods

Rich Products Corporation has initiated a recall of its Farm Rich Mini Quesadillas, Farm Rich Mini Pizza Slices, Farm Rich Philly Cheese Steaks, Farm Rich Mozzarella Bites, Farm Rich Mini Bacon Cheeseburgers and Market Day Mozzarella Bites because of a possible E. coli contamination, according to CBS News.

The Buffalo-based company is working with the USDA, FDA and CDC to determine how products manufactured in their Waycross, GA plant may have become contaminated with E. coli bacteria. The products were manufactured between Nov. 12 and Nov. 19 and have "Best By" dates between Jan. 1, 2013 and Sept. 29, 2014. The dates can be located on the back of the package on all of the products, according to information on the Farm Rich website. These products were distributed in retail stores nationwide.

Farm Rich has set up a 24-hour consumer relations hotline for people to call if they think they have purchased one of the affected items or have questions. This number is 1-888-220-5955.

Symptoms of the illness include mild to severe diarrhea and abdominal cramps. Blood is often seen in the stool. Usually little or no fever is present. Although most healthy adults can recover completely within 5-10 days, certain individuals can develop a complication called Hemolytic Uremic Syndrome (HUS), which can cause the kidneys to fail. HUS is most likely to occur in young children and the elderly.
