Plato's Closet Opens in Dedham to Buy Used Clothing for Grand Opening

At Plato's Closet, a customer will be able to sell their clothing and be able to use that money to either buy more clothes or use the money for something else.

Local teens and twenty-somethings will now have the chance to bring their stylish clothing that has been piling-up in their closets for months and either make money off of them or trade them for other items. The new Plato’s Closet, 622 Washington St. in Dedham, is open and buying merchandise from residents for its grand opening.

Plato’s Closet is part of a unique national recycling retail store chain that specializes in clothing and accessories for teens and twenty-somethings. The store is looking to buy the latest styles and trends in brand-name clothing and accessories for guys and girls, including shoes, purses, belts, and jewelry (except earrings for sanitary reasons).

“We encourage the community to go through their overflowing closets, bring in clothes they no longer want or wear and walk out with cash in their pockets,” said Ting Yeh, who owns the new Plato’s Closet in Dedham. “In today’s economy, consumers on a budget need the cost savings when it comes to buying brand-name clothing and accessories. By purchasing merchandise directly from consumers, we’re able to offer them a great opportunity to receive cash on the spot for items they may have otherwise simply given away.”

Unlike a typical consignment store, appointments are not necessary to sell clothing and accessories to Plato’s Closet. Plus, the store will cash on the spot and uses a computer system to quote the price of each item.

Typically, Plato’s Closet will buy items that have been in retail stores within the past 12-to-18 months and are current styles seen in the mall.

"At our store can expect great customer service, sell their clothes and get cash on the spot," Yeh said. "Once we open customers will be able to get clothes at 50 to 70 percent off retail. So you will be able to sell your clothes to us and also buy clothes at the same place."
