We know Dedham residents don’t just stay in town when they want a night out and a break from cooking.
Restaurant coming and goings, new business and the best dishes and recipes are among the items that have appeared on Patch sites around the region over the past month.
Below is a look at the restaurant and food stories covered in the past month.
Dedham's began featuring a series of music nights on Thursday, Aug. 2 to parallel the day-long festivities of Dedham's First Thursday celebration.
Manager Raymond Brady said the overall goal for the effort of bringing music into town was to expand on the 6-11 p.m. nightlife in Dedham Square.
The famous steak tips of Conrad's, which for years has been a local favorite in Norwood, can now be enjoyed at their new location in the Main Street Shopping Center in Walpole.
According to General Manager Larry Lovejoy, business has been, "Terrific . . . we’ve been really busy. I think we’re getting a lot of people that are trying us out."
Months of construction have led the owners of in Walpole to build a nearby coffee shop dubbed in an effort to continue the success they have had at the corner of Main and Common Streets.
The Coffee Perch sells three blends of coffee from a roaster in Rhode Island, espresso drinks and baked goods including bagels, muffins, croissants, scones and breakfast sandwiches.
Andrea Taber, owner the Ever So Humble Pie Company in East Walpole, faced a bit of a surprise this month, after she told the Boston Herald about her refusal to accept welfare money for her products at a Braintree farmers market.
The story was featured on the front page of the Herald, an event that garnered Taber good and bad attention. “I was blown away," Taber said. "The front page of the Herald, I mean, I never expected that. I was expecting a couple of paragraphs buried somewhere in the paper."
With a strong foothold already in Norwood, Jake N’ Joes Sports Grille is opening a second location in Foxborough and will be looking to hire 60 to 65 employees from the area when it gets closer to its November opening, according to Gerrard D. Fruggiero, the restaurant’s manager.
“We expect to hire 60 to 65 people from the local communities to work for us,” Fruggiero told the Foxborough Board of Selectmen. “Once we get into a timeline of opening and are four weeks from anticipated training of staff, we will do on-site hiring where we will set up a trailer to do interviewing and hiring.”
The Selectmen approved the transfer of the all alcohol and restaurant license from the former Piccadilly Pub to Jake N’ Joes.
Despite legal disputes and financial concerns, Chris Spinazzola and Marjorie Clapprood – former owners of in Foxborough – continue to act in the best interest of their former clients and employees.
The reputations of Spinazzola and Clapprood as outstanding business owners in Foxborough have preceded them despite an ongoing financial dispute that forced a change in ownership at Christina’s this past June.
Eddie Wu, owner of Mai Pearl in Foxborough, met with the Foxborough Board of Health this month to discuss seven critical violations found at his restaurant during a July inspection, all of which he has since addressed, according to Health Agent Pauline Clifford. Wu said it was sheer laziness that led to the violations.
The Tavern at Wrentham recently finished its newest addition in town, holding a special grand-opening ceremony on Aug. 17.
Opening in May 2010, The Tavern at Wrentham has become one of the more popular local spots for people to enjoy a drink and relax in the evening. The three main attractions to the restaurant has been trivia, karaoke, and open mic night.
A moving van could be seen in front of on Union Street in Attleboro in late August, as owner Bill Sarro prepared to close the restaurant after five years. The reason for closing? Sarro said he did not renew his lease on the property.
"In these economic times, the tough times we're in, it's not feasible with the rent and the taxes in this city to make it work," Sarro told Attleboro-Seekonk Patch.
The city of Attleboro also announced in August that it would hold its first Restaurant Week the week of Oct. 1-7. The goal is to make it a semi-annual event.
Stoughton residents were treated to some new Mexican food this month, as Roxanne's Taqueria opened up in Cobb's Corner.
Owned by Stoughton native Jesse Rosen, and his business partner Josh Katz of Sharon, the new restaurant aims to be a brand new, independently-owned restaurant that prides itself on bringing in quality, fresh, local ingredients to make some of the finest Mexican food in the area.
A year after making headlines for ordering 150 pizzas from in Stoughton, Mississippi resident and Stoughton native David Schuler came back for more, returning down south with 250 pizzas from the Stoughton restaurant.
Schuler made headlines last August when he drove from his home in Madison, Miss. to Town Spa and back again to pick up an order of 150 pizzas. He did one better this year by placing an order of 250 pizzas.
It didn't take much for Chandra Gouldrup to reach her dream of becoming a restaurant owner. And with Main Street Cafe' having officially closed it's doors last May, Gouldrup found a vacancy in Easton and an opportunity for utilizing years of experience in culinary arts and restaurant management, along with a love for cooking that dates back to her childhood.
The new restaurant is set to open this fall.
