Heirloom Kitchen Offers Valentine's Special, Chef Talks Favorite Dish

If you're still looking for a romantic meal idea for Valentine's Day on Friday, Dedham's newest take-out restaurant Heirloom Kitchen may have your answer.

The take-out eatery is currently offering the following Valentine's Day prix fixe special for $80:

  • Appetizer: Sautéed Jonah crab cake with a saffron and preserved lemon aioli.
  • Entree: Braised beef short ribs accompanied by a root vegetable gratin. Paired with glazed baby carrots and radishes.
  • Dessert: Meyer lemon panna cotta and a delicious lemon shortbread cookie.
Customers who order the special can also visit Blanchards in West Roxbury and ask for John-Paul for the ideal wine pairing.

Meanwhile, Dedham Patch checked in with Heirloom Kitchen Executive Chef Ed Hoffey on how his current role compares with past roles in the kitchen as well as his favorite dish.

Dedham Patch: How are things going with the business?

Ed Hoffey: Things are going real well, starting to pick up a little steam. The delivery is starting to pick up a little bit, and we do this promotion of free delivery on Friday if you order by Thursday night. We're getting two or three (delivery) orders a day, sometimes four or five.

Dedham Patch: What is your favorite dish you make?

Ed Hoffey: Probably the mushroom tart. I like mushrooms; I have a guy I get a lot of specialty mushrooms from, and when I order them, he just gives me whatever's being foraged, so it's a chance to get, on a weekly basis, different, fun stuff.

Dedham Patch: How does your role at Heirloom Kitchen compare to previous chef jobs?

Ed Hoffey: It's 100 percent different. It couldn't be more opposite. It's still cooking, but in terms of the take-out only aspect and how open this is, not only am I cooking all day, I'm taking payments and orders, things like that. It's a different flow, it's just completely different. Part of the draw to this was that I was working a SSSSS, and this was a new concept and that was kind of intriguing. I've been working in kitchens for 17 years. The flow and the atmosphere is different, so it's a chance to kind of refresh my passion.
