Dedham Student Wins First Literary Legacy Scholarship Competition
Dedham High School graduate David St. Cyr won a $500 scholarship for his blog entry about L.L. Bean on Dedham Patch.
In 2012, Legacy Place and Dedham High School announced their first ever Literary Legacy Scholarship Competition for students.
The program entailed students to be paired up with a business within Legacy Place and write blogs that would appear on the Dedham Patch.
The student were judged based on the topic of the blog and the quality of the writing. The author of the winning entry would then receive a $500 scholarship from Legacy Place.
On Wednesday Aug. 6, the award was presented to Dedham High School graduate David St. Cyr for his blog about how L.L. Bean gives to the community.
The scholarship will help St. Cyr this fall when he starts school at UMass-Amherst where he plans to major in business.
"It's very exciting to receive this scholarship," St. Cyr said.
Dedham High School Principal Ron McCarthy was very proud to present the award to the DHS graduate.
"This was a great opportunity and I hope that we can continue the program," McCarthy said. "And I know that David is going to do very well in Amherst and represent Dedham High School very well."
