Dedham Farmers Market Asks for Wine Approval, Bugaboo Creek Replacement Coming Soon

The Board of Selectmen most likely will approve a liquor license for the Farmers Market to sell locally produced wine.

Dedham Board of Selectmen will consider a liquor license for the Farmers Market to allow Still River Winery to sell its product beginning in mid-June.

The winery had filled out necessary paperwork to sell, but hadn't received a special form that would allow it to serve samples to customers.

Once received, the Board of Selectmen indicated they would vote on the license.

The Harvard-based winery makes only one product, apple ice wine, a dessert wine served just 3 ounces at a time.

"This is our third year," said Wade Holtzman, a winery co-owner. "We're utilizing local agricultural and encouraging it, which is important to us."

Tank of 1,000 Lobsters to Hit Providence Highway

Plans are in the works for Jasper White, his tank of 1,000 lobsters and his restaurant Summer Shack to open at the later this year.

White said he is in the middle of building inspections and obtaining the liquor license from Bugaboo Creek's parent company.

The 216-seat Dedham spot would be White's fifth Summer Shack. Menus at his other restaurants feature plenty of seafood - including lobster either pan-roasted or grilled.

"Your reputation precedes you as a solid businessman," selectman Jim MacDonald said.

50's Diner Gets Musical

The will pair its nostalgic food with classic cars and live acapella music on Saturdays beginning next month.

George Deamantopoulos, the restaurant's owner, received permission from the Board of Selectmen for an entertainment license on Thursday.

"I have to say you exemplify one of the attributes that really make the difference, and that is creativity," selectman Paul Reynolds said to Deamantopoulos.

District Convenience to Open 'Sunday or Monday'

owner Perry Makarios told the Board of Selectmen Thursday that he would open his Dedham Square store by Monday, nearly one year after he received a liquor license from the board.

Selectmen had planned to vote whether to revoke Makarios' license since he to open, but withheld from voting to give the business owner through the weekend to open to the public.

"I was issued my occupancy license today," he said. "The inventory has come in."

Selectman Carmen Dello Iacono railed Makarios for not opening sooner and "misleading" the board throughout the process.

"I'm happy you are going to open," Dello Iacono said. "The only thing I look for is someone to be truthful, and you haven't been."
