Dedham Exchange Celebrates 100th Anniversary

The local business was recognized by local and state officials on Wednesday.

One of Dedham's long-standing small businesses this week celebrated retaining a presence in town for more than a century.

The Dedham Exchange, a nonprofit gift shop in Dedham focused on benefiting educational and philanthropic organizations, celebrated its 100th anniversary this week by offering cake and refreshments to patrons from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., according to Dedham Square Circle

To help the business celebrate, State Rep. Paul McMurtry (D-Dedham) and State Sen. Mike Rush (D-West Roxbury), whose district includes Dedham, read citations from the House Senate to commemorate the achievement.

The gift shop was founded in 1914 with the goal of providing a market for hand-crafted goods. Seventy cents of every dollar spent on goods at the shop goes directly to the artist who crafted the items.
