East Dedham Post Office can take some of the stress off the Dedham Square Post Office while the Square gets a big a major improvement.

This is a solution staring Dedham in the face.

Soon contracting in a sweeping design change that will make the town better. It needs doing. And it will be messy, a traffic nightmare and hurtful to the retailers in the Square. All around the area, people are trying to make the best of the construction period.

But it could be a wonderful way to cut down on the downtown clutter as an interim place to send most of the Dedham Square daily trucks, customer cars and other traffic. USPS might need to put a temporary office – a truck office – at East Dedham to do this extra work.

If any of the businesses had this other-building option, it would seize it.

As it is, the Dedham Square is cramped. Finding a parking space is tough. Even before the big makeover begins, cars have trouble in the morning. Across the street is a busy police station that must keep up its pace no matter what the construction dictates; cops are tops.  Next door to the Square post office is a complex of Norfolk County buildings. The traffic it generates is huge. Lots of the court traffic is unfamiliar with the area; they are witnesses and jury members. During the makeover of the Square, there will be lots of people who are completely confused.

Of course the volume of adds to all this other regular traffic.

For all those reasons, paring back the traffic at the Dedham Square branch would be bit of magic.

It can be accomplished

is a perfect solution. It can take away some of the bustle downtown and help the construction go a little more smoothly.

In fact, if something might be worked out for the duration of the construction, it might bring new thinking on whether East Dedham post office should stay.

Thinking about the Bussey Street office as a partial solution is a natural.

Not considering it is foolish.
