Tail Waggin' Tutors Helping Young Readers in Dedham

This new program at Dedham Library branches encourages young readers to read while sitting and petting a furry friend. Sign up for free!

Dedham children learning to read can team up with a furry Tail Waggin' Tutor starting on Tuesday to practice their reading skills in a warm and supportive atmosphere.

The first session is Tuesday (Sept. 10) at the Endicott Branch Library in Dedham, where parents (or children) can schedule one-on-one time with a Tail Waggin' Tutor at the library. The trained therapy dogs, like Lilly, allow budding readers to practice their reading skills as children are encouraged to read aloud while sitting with and
petting the dog.

"We are so pleased to be able to offer this program to our young patrons,"
said Danielle Conklin, librarian at the Endicott Branch. "Reading aloud
builds confidence and being in the presence of a friendly pet can be very
therapeutic. It's a great combination."

Tail Waggin' Tutors will be available at the Endicott Branch Library on
Tuesday evenings and the Dedham Main Library on Wednesday evenings. Parents are invited to schedule a session for their children by calling 781-751-9179.
