Official Dedham 375 Unveils New Logo

The Dedham 375 Steering Committee chose a logo from among a couple dozen entries.

With the start of the town's 375th anniversary, the celebration committee put out feelers for a new logo to help kick-off a year of events.

Thanks to Dedham resident Steve Davey, the Dedham 375 Steering Committee has one.

The committee called for logo idea submissions late last year and received two dozen enteries. The designs were reviewed by a committee of five local artists and art teachers, according to the committee.

“For the logo, I chose a handwriting style that I researched from documents written during the time Dedham was founded, and combined it with a near ubiquitous symbol of communications today. Together they bookend Dedham's history from 375 years ago until present day,” Davey said.

The celebration began with a Valentine's event at the earlier this month, and will continue in May with the first ever that will highlight local artists.

Other events include a day of public service, a town-wide tag sale and the celebration’s extravaganza on September 10.

Davey's design will be featured on a commemorative watercolor and a new website to be launch soon.

The other submissions will be displayed as part of 375 festivities planned for this year.
