Dedham Open Studios an 'Ideal' Event for Artists

Organizers say the May 15 event will take place throughout Dedham.

Dedham art lovers will get a chance to see a host of artwork on May 15 – but organizers still are calling for more artists to participate in the Open Studios event.

Artists that want the exposure must register with Dedham Open Studios by April 1, however in order to make the promotional brochure, they must register by March 15, according to the event’s website.

Organizers Jen Barsamian and Kerry Hawkins were spurred to create the event in order to give Dedham artists a place to show their work that’s close to home.

“There are several Dedham artists that are part of groups in Boston, Jamaica Plain, Hyde Park and Needham, now it's time for Dedham to have organized events and groups, therefore bringing out all our talent,” Barsamian said.

Open Studios will take place throughout the town – in Dedham Square, the and even artists’ homes.

“It will bring people out as it's fun to drive around a town, visit home studios and have groups of artists gather to get a chance to check out and help support local artists,” Barsamian said.

With Dedham Open Studios taking place all over town, the key will be a good map, Barsamian said.

“The map will not only pinpoint all the various locations of the artists, but also who is at that particular location and their medium,” she said.

Dedham artists can register for $25 and non-residents can participate for $35. It is open to artists across all disciplines.

“Dedham is an ideal setting for this type of an event,” she said. “The low registration fees make this an ideal event for any artist to come, interact with the public, and hopefully sell some of their art.”
