Weight Loss Challenge Calls for Dedham to Collectively Lose 1,000 Lbs.

The challenge is part of a 50 Days of Fitness Fun initiative taking place over the next several days in Dedham.

As part of Dedham's 50 Days of Fitness Fun, town officials are hosting a number of related events this weekend, including a challenge to get the entire town of Dedham to collectively lose 1,000 pounds for the month of February.

Luau Party: Thursday, Jan. 30

Time & Location: 5-7 p.m. at the Endicott Estate

Sponsored by the Dedham Health Dept and Whole Foods, this event will feature an exotic fruits and healthy smoothie sampling. Try samples of exotic fruits, make a healthy smoothie and listen to the sweet sounds of Hawaiian music.

International Dance Party: Friday, Jan. 31

Time & Location: 7-9 p.m. at the Mother Brook Arts & Community Center

This event will be facilitated by the DYC ELL Club and Dedham DJS Club! Music from various cultures will be played for all to enjoy.

Downsizing Dedham: Saturday, Feb. 1

Time & Location: 9 a.m. - 5 p.m. in front of Dedham Town Hall

Downsizing Dedham is a community weight loss challenge for the month of February. As a town, it is our goal to collectively lose 1000 pounds.

This challenge is meant to be a fun way for residents to rally together and support one another. The Dedham Youth Commission will donate a bottle of water for every pound lost by the town to the Dedham Food Pantry.

Details:

  • The official weigh-in event is Saturday, Feb. 1 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Dedham Town Hall. Everyone’s individual weight is kept confidential.
  • Representatives from local gyms and health facilities will be present to share health and fitness tips.
  • Everyone who participates in the Downsizing Dedham community weigh loss challenge is automatically entered into a raffle for a weekend getaway to Newport, Rhode Island and an iPod Touch.
  • The official weigh-out event is Saturday, March 1. Time and place to-be-determined.

Well so far this month I've list 6.5 lbs. I use a product called fitbit it calculates your calories by wearing a small device on my wrist. It bases the calories on how active you are and how many steps you take. I also log my food eaten on their site and it calcs my calories eaten and cals burned. I've used it for over a year. I slso have there scale that syncs to the site.
