Dedham Business Spotlight: Aquitaine French BIstro at Legacy Place

This french bistro is inspired by neighborhood bistros in Paris.

Aquitaine French Bistro at Legacy Place is the newest in the Aquitaine Group owned by partners Matthew Burns, Executive Chef Seth Woods and Jeffrey Gates.

The group is a well known and respected Boston restaurant company with restaurants throughout Boston and surrounding towns. They include the Aquitaine Bar a Vin Bistro, Metropolis Cafe, Union Bar and Grille, Gaslight Brasserie du Coin, Aquitaine Chestnut Hill and now, Aquitaine French Bistro in Dedham.

The group received Best of Boston Awards in 2008, 2009, 2010, Diner's Choice Winner in 2010, Dig This Awards 2010, 2009 Boston's Best - Improper Bostonian and 2010 South End Favorites.

Patch sat down with Erik Johnson, general manager, to learn more about this successful restaurant group and what makes the Dedham location stand out from the others in their group.

Patch: How long has the Aquitaine Group been in business?

Johnson: The company started in 1995 with Wood's first restaurant, the Metropolis Cafe on Tremont Street in Boston. Then in 1998, he opened Aquitaine Bar a Vin Bistro also on Tremont Street which is now known as Restaurant Row. Woods and Burns met when they worked together at the Armani Cafe. Gates joined the group in 2003 and brought his extensive wine knowledge and unprecedented understanding of the restaurant scene.

Patch: What's new in the Dedham restaurant?

Johnson: Our menu was redesigned a few weeks ago. We now have "Plats Du Jour" for each day of the week starting on Monday with Bouillabaisse, Tuesday is Coq Au Vin, Wednesday we have a Pork Tenderloin, Thursday is Cassoulet, Friday is Swordfish au Poivre, Saturday we have Skate Meuniere and Sunday is Beef Bourguignon. People have responded well to the new menu because they know which day to come back when they want Swordfish au Poivre.

Patch: Legacy Place is one of the most popular malls around this area and is always busy. Which nights are your busiest?

Johnson: We have a nice bar and dinner crowd Thursday and Friday evenings. Saturday we are busy all day so it's best to call ahead.
