Count Us In: Dedham Junior Woman's Club

You can count on these women to be "active volunteers in the community."

Since 1979, the Dedham Junior Woman's Club (DJWC) has made it a mission to be "active volunteers in the community."

What attracted me was how well organized the club was, how they followed an order at their meetings and there were all sorts of committees to join that actually did stuff," Sunshine Millea, member of the club said. "I'm really impressed with the women here and the things that they are doing for the community through the club."

Through fundraising efforts from events like the "Craft Show," "Breakfast with Santa" and "Mothers Day Tea," the club is able to raise money for social services, schools and other non-profit organizations in Dedham.

The DJWC will also be sponsoring this year's "Dedham Tree Jubilee" on Nov. 30.  The purpose behind this event will be to raise money for the Dedham Food Pantry.  DJWC member Janet Holmes, feels very excited to be involved with the event.

"I hope that this event can grow to be as successful as the Craft Show," Holmes said.

However, the club is always looking for members to not only help, but to bring creative ideas on how to serve the community.

"Membership is open to all Dedham Woman," Holmes said.  "We welcome everyone, especially those with plenty of energy, enthusiasm and creative ideas.  Members decide on how much they want to do and on what committees they would like to join."
