Commuters Say Dedham is Riddled With Traffic

Dedham residents sound off on traffic in town.

From the Westwood and Norwood lines all the way to Boston, commuters say it’s a nightmare driving through Dedham during rush hour.

Whether it’s Route 1, 109, 135,  Dedham Square or the Bridge Street/ VFW Parkway intersection, commuters battle long waits and congestion.

Patch reader Dale Meyer-Curley expressed displeasure with several roads in town.

“Riverdale, Riverdale, Riverdale. That intersection at Bridge St/109/VFW Parkway/Spring St, West Roxbury is HORRIBLE,” she posted on Facebook.

Sheila Fitzgerald, another Patch reader said it took her almost a half hour to get through Dedham Square  one morning driving down route 135.

Dan O’Neil of Dedham said the 135 stretch of High Street and the 109 stretch of Riverdale are “terrible” at 5 p.m.

A recent data map on Patch, showed that it takes commuters 45 minutes to an hour for people to get to work from several areas of Dedham.

Nationally, the number of people traveling more than an hour to work rose to 11.1 million in 2012. That’s up 300,000 from 2011. Which is bad news, because extensive travel times are linked to an increased risk of developing high blood sugar and cholesterol, depression, anxiety and a feeling of social isolation.

Christine D Fay of Dedham said there’s no winning for commuters at rush hour.

“All of Dedham is riddled with traffic,” she said.
