Thanks to everyone for attending the Mother Brook Arts and Community Center Ribbon Cutting!

A thank you to the Town of Dedham's support of the Mother Brook Arts and Community Center

On behalf of the Board of Directors of the newly established Mother Brook Arts and Community Center, I’d like to thank everyone who attended last week’s Ribbon Cutting Ceremony and extend our most sincere gratitude to the individuals and businesses who have shown their unwavering support for this project!

Although the rain had started to fall last Wednesday afternoon, it didn’t deter the 200 or so people who had gathered outside the old Avery Schoolhouse to celebrate what has become a source of hope and pride for the Town of Dedham.  The crowd included preschool-age children and Newbridge on the Charles residents, elected officials and bank presidents, artists and East Dedham neighbors.  As Co-Chairs of the Board Bob Miller and State Representative Paul McMurtry prepared to cut the ribbon and declare the MBACC officially open for business, everyone counted down and cheered.  It was a great moment for Dedham.

Town Administrator Bill Keegan pointed to the investment in the Center as one of the key factors contributing to the recent 5-star Bond Rating awarded to Dedham, and Selectman Mike Butler remarked on how although “Dedham has a history of tearing down it’s history,” it’s been so wonderful to see the old Avery School being transformed and reused.

Of course, we still have a long way to go before the MBACC becomes not only a fully functional Arts and Community Center booked to capacity but also the economic boost that Dedham is hoping for.   With plans for everything from a new boiler to a media center and even a restaurant/café, the support and energy that we saw on the steps of the Center will get us there quickly.  Our goal is to create a place where arts and community meet, nestled right in the heart of East Dedham along the Mother Brook.  We can think of no better way to give back to the town that we call home.
