Norfolk DA Asks Dedham Seniors to Dump Unused Prescription Drugs

5 things to know for Friday, Nov. 9 in Dedham.

1.  A group from Dedham Council on Aging attended the Fall Senior Summit hosted by District Attorney Michael W. Morrissey, Norwood Hospital and the Norwood Council on Aging, learning about prescription drug safety and other health and wellness topics. Morrissey asked the more than 100 seniors in attendance to do their part by not holding on to prescription pain or psychotropic medications any longer than they need them.  Morrissey said that addictions specialists are finding that more than half and perhaps as many as three-quarters of young people hooked on opiates got their first dose from common pain killers taken from the medicine cabinet of a family member or acquaintance.

2. The Dedham Square Artist Guild will hold an opening reception for their November Artist of the Month show: Gary E. Koeppel — Works In Plein Air on Saturday from 6 to 8 p.m. at
553 High Street.

3.    The Town of Dedham will celebrate Veterans Day this year with the dedication of a new Korean War Memorial at the Brookedale Cemetery. The memorial will be installed this week at the cemetery and will be unveiled in front of veterans on Monday at 10 a.m.  The public is invited.

4.  The Dedham Middle School will start the holiday weekend off with a ceremony for all military veterans on Friday at  8:30 a.m. in their auditorium. Last year,  Students honored local veterans with song, speeches and a presentation of colors at the annual Veterans Day assembly at the school’s auditorium. 

5.  Thursday will be mostly sunny, with a high near 48 degrees.
