As anyone with children knows, the last couple of weeks of school are madness.
The MCAS tests and daily studies are behind them now, and the teachers try their
very best each and every day to keep their students attention and their minds
engaged. It is a world of field trips, class days, final grades, desk and locker clean-
outs, along with anxious nights at home, wondering who you`re "going to get"
The students at the Oakdale Elementary School are no different, except for the fact that they`re led by Principal Holli Armstrong. Ms. Armstrong is just finishing up her seventh year at Oakdale, and takes great pride in being a Principal.
With less than a week left in the school year, she called together the sixteen
members of her 5th grade Student Council and plans were underway for the school`s Annual Flag Day Celebration. Patriotic music was downloaded, research on our country`s red, white and blue was completed, and an assembly for all of Oakdale`s 340 plus students was planned.
The boys and girls in the the younger grades made hats, recited poems, sang songs, and even participated in one tribute done all in American Sign Language. The students in the fourth and fifth grades were all on hand to share this, their last assembly together before Summer break.
As for Holli Armstrong, her calendar was already turned to the page that says "September..."
