Tell Us: Should the "No Parking" Signs Around Dedham High School Come Down?

One way of creating more parking is by removing the "no parking" signs. But would that solve the problem?

There are some (if not a lot) of Dedham residents who are tired of limited parking around Dedham High School.

There are "No Parking" signs all over the place.  The only problem is that there are now visitors who try to avoid the signs by parking on private property- upseting the owners.

One resident, who would like to remain anonymous, feels that if the signs were removed from the street- there wouldn't be any problems.

But what do you think? Should the "No Parking" signs around Dedham High School come down?

There are some who would say, "Yes, there needs to be anough space for parents who drive their kids to and from school."

But there are some who would say, "No...the removal of signs will allow parking on the sidewalk endangering students, and pedestrians, as well as irritating the police with 'frivolous' calls about public safety."

Telling it like it is

I see cars parked on the sidewalks of Whiting Ave. everyday. Right under the no parking signs. They are not ticketed because there are no cops. And there are no cops because they are too busy working their 5 man details in the square.
Don't forget the motto of the public sector union worker. "Never kill the job".

Amen! How much longer must we taxpayers endure these police detail boondoggles?

Parking violations are gateway crimes - they always lead to the harder stuff, like speeding, wheelies, reckless driving, and attempts to jump over Snake River Canyon.

Just a simple question for those living in or around the High School. Was the big building there when you bought your homes?? It's like the people who buy a home next to the train station and complain about the noise from the trains passing by

Just wondering has a point! I chose to live on a busy street in town and I do not complain about the traffic. Why don't people start blogging about something worth while? Who listens to police scanners anyway, there are better things to do! And assuming you know how a police department operates and how calls are prioritized should be questioned or assuming that about any job you do not have should be questioned. Especially when you have the gall to blog publicly about it

As I looked back on my life, I saw two sets of tire tracks, mine and the Lord's. But some times there was only one set of tire tracks, and I asked Him, Lord, why did you abandon me at those times? He said "that was when you parked illegally in front of Dedham High School, and I had to save the lives of mothers with baby carriages."

Same clown who was begging for granite curbs to be installed in front of his house ''for the kids sake''. How many kids do you have that go to the high school city guy? Oh, you don't have any? Not to many in your stretch do and Bingo is once a week, we all have little annoyances in life, for you it's old ladies playing bingo and parents picking up their kids. Maybe if your nice neighbors didn't block up the path leading to Morse Ave parents wouldn't have to drive to the school and pick up their kids and offend you so much by parking near your palatial estate. Oh well, it is hurricane season so i guess you being a wind bag is no big deal, have a great day and keep crying. Rain generally accompanies hot air.

I know for a fact that they didn't get a ''dressing down'' . I'm related to one of them, you clown. I also know that you are the only one who cries about the parking ''problem'' and hides behind the guise of ''caring for the children''. Hasn't been a single person hurt there from what I can remember. I'm sure you can pull out some inane facts about accidents and a ''child was hit on Whiting Ave. several years ago''. Of course that was nowhere near the high school, but don't let facts get in the way of your crying. Most kids I see are smart enough to walk down to the crossing guard and if they don't they are at least bright enough to look both ways when they cross to meet up with their parent who is picking them up. They are in high school you know. I'm done reading your garbage so have fun flaming me, if you can pull yourself away from your window and your scanner. hahahahaha what a clown

I am deluded for wasting a time with you, City Guy. Would think a big townie who has lived here for so long would know that Dedham is a town. Nice work, clown. Blame everyone else for your sad sack life, why don't you just stand outside your dump with a no parking sign instead of spending all day crying about it online. You seem to have the time for useless banter. Adios clown, keep that scanner tuned and keep wishing you had the guts to be a cop.

whoa, whoa, whoa City Guy.... It's important for EVERYONE to know that even though comments are an open forum...it's important that the people involved are respectful to each-other. It's OK to feel angry about something- but please don't attack someone's "education" or knowledge. Let's at least try to keep things respectful.

Harvard class of '65, clown. And I know you aren't in law enforcement, being a private eye doesn't count. Cars park near schools and if you expect the cops have nothing better to do then run up and write parking tickets while the town is flooded with drugs and other crime then you for sure know nothing about law enforcement. Maybe the school could send home reminders to parents that if they are picking up their kids not to park there, ever talk to them about it? I'm assuming not because you just come here and bitch. It's not a ''fray'' either, I've driven by the school on days when no school activities are taking place and see cars parked there, big deal, someone has people over, no harm. Fingers crossed that you find an answer and if that's all that bothers you then you have it pretty good. GOOD LUCK.

My use of the word clown was wrong and I apologize.Obviously a hot button issue with city and he has a right to post his feelings. I don't agree with his opinion but I should not have called names, juvenile of me and I do apologize to you city guy. Good luck city with your quest but please don't trivialize what the police do for everyone in this town. They in general do a great job. Our harsh word back and forth wont solve anything so lets just agree to disagree.

There should be no parking signs on both sides of Whiting ave. The High School side should be used for pick up and drop off only. I walked by this morning, there were 15 cars parked 12 on the high school side. 3 on the sidewalk, on the opposite side of the street, forcing me to walk in the street. I thought sidewalks were for pedestrians.
Just down the road, on the east side of the football field, there is a brand new parking lot that had to have atleast 50 vacant parking spots. Is this yet another waste of taxpayers money? Lets use the spots and free up the road.

Thankfully the Dedham High football team is god-awful or else the parking problem would be way out of hand on Friday nights. The Whiting Ave neighbors are all pulling for an 0-11 season so they keep attracting a crowd consisting solely of parents and the occasional streaker.

Betty White/JoeDedham -

Typical of what ? Not wanting to be misquoted?

You misquoted me with 'for the children', 'Morse Ave fence issues' and 'the child that was killed some years ago on Whiting' - none of which I mentioned! Those were all your comments.

My only point was Public Safety and the responsibility of the police to investigate citizen concerns for the same. To call those concerns 'frivolous' without investigating and when forced to investigate say that for 'Practicality reasons' there will be no parking violations written is of concern.

I suppose there are those that would call me a nerd but it is not within usual police action to announce it over police airwaves. To talk directly to a citizen over police airwaves in order to mock that citizen is not within the usual use of the system. It is so unprofessional as a minimum.
