A Norfolk County Sheriff's deputy has died after an accident involving a department motorcycle and two cars on Interstate 95 this morning, State Police say.

The Sun Chronicle is reporting that the deputy involved was Ryan Tvelia, 42, of Plainville.

An ambulance took the deputy to a local hospital after the 7:40 a.m. crash on I-95 North, north of Exit 9 in Sharon, State Police said in a press release.

"(The) preliminary investigation indicates that the driver of the motorcycle was involved in a collision with one car and then was struck in a secondary collision with a second car," State Police said.

Troopers from the Foxborough State Police barracks, as well as along with members of the State Police Crime Scene Services Section, Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Section, and Norfolk County State Police detectives, responded to the crash, State Police said.

The crash caused a five-mile traffic back-up on I-95 for a time, Fox 25 in Boston reports.

I was a commuter on the south side of 95 yesterday and saw the traffic backed up on the other side. That is so sad, especially considering the officer was doing something kind for another. My condolences to his family...
