MBTA Approves Plans to Use Readville Yard to Produce Power
There was a lot of discussion about whether or not Readville Yard can be used to create solar energy.
The Readville Yard will now be the home for more than 8,500 solar panels which will create electricity for the MBTA.
The MassDOT Board met yesterday to discuss whether or not to move forward with the plans. However, all members of the board voted unanimously to pursue the project.
Now the MBTA will be able to increase the amount of renewable energy, including solar energy. This goal is a part of the Patrick/Murray's administration's determination to increase the use of renewable energy.
The renewable energy produced through this project will result in a reduction of over 1.4 million pounds of greenhouse gases.
According to the MBTA, they will also save an average of $48,900 per year on energy costs.
