UPDATED: Large Brush Fire Burning in Dedham

Reports 20 acres are burning and smoke can be seen as far north as Lynnfield.

 

 

Update 8:15 p.m. Several fires and moving toward Rte. 128

Update 7:51 p.m. Fire can now be seen behind Carol Drive

Update 7:38 p.m. Mass State Police airwing is now on the scene. They are picking up the Fire Warden to evaluate

Update 7:37 p.m. Reports Dedham has a thick and heavy smell of smoke. Wind must have shifted. Ash and soot still falling

Update 7:34 p.m. Dedham Fire Dept. reporting fire is about 800 feet from some homes may penetrate woods. Some dry brush but also wet swampy ground.

Update 7:19 p.m. Reports Fire is heading toward Carol Drive.

Update 7:17 p.m. Dedham chief seeking helicopter for observation.

Update 7:16 p.m. Mass Forest Fire official now on scene.

Update 7:15 p.m. Dedham Fire Department says perimeter of properties are being covered by firefighters. Waiting to see direction or goes because of shifting winds.  

Update 7:10 p.m. State Police Airwing now responding to the fire in Dedham to transmit images to Command

Update 6:52 p.m. Fire is burning in large green space at end of Greensboro road. Witnesses tell Dedham Patch they didn't hear any noise. 

Update: Following reports this fire could have been caused by a plane crash, there are no reports of missing aircraft at this time. Chief Shanahan just reported they can not access the fire. They can only assess which way it is spreading and try to protect homes

Update: Dedham Fallon EMS has a report that it is a plane crash. All trying to confirm

Update: Reports firefighters say fire is inaccessible, letting it spread, requesting multiple sources of water supply

A large brush fire is currently burning through through multiple acres in the area behind the Stop & Shop Warehouse. Several communities are responding as the fire is spreading rapidly.

Amtrak has suspended service in the area and the winds are blowing the fire toward the Village Manor. Dedham is sending an engine to that location to monitor. 

There are reports that smoke can be seen from Dorchester and South Boston.

Someone should alert the MBTA that conductors are smoking cigarettes in the vestibules of the commuter rail trains. They then may be flicking their hot butts out the doors!

Curious why a brush fire would make such black smoke. Seeing it, i assumed it involved oil or something similar.

Jill do you have any proof that happened or are you just trying to get someone fired because when people like you write this crap or take photos then someone gets fired. So stop being a hero and mind your business.
