DMS Students Hold Annual Dedham Food Drive

Dedham Middle School held a food drive for The Dedham Food Pantry.

Dedham Middle School's Sixth grade teachers, Sue Lyons, Andrew Patterson, and Rebecca Huff, organized another successful “Thanksgiving Food Drive” recently, held at the school.

With the help of their classes, and the 600 plus students throughout the school, almost 2,000 pieces of non-perishable food items were collected these past few weeks.

Each year, the students, teachers, and families from the Dedham Middle School have been very generous with their donations to the Dedham Food Pantry.

According to Food Pantry President, Lindsay Barich, all donations, regardless of size, have a significant impact in our community. The Pantry's motto: “Neighbors Helping Neighbors” has rung true for over 21 years now.

This is the one organization in town, that does not receive any government funding and has no paid employees.

Especially around this time of year, Barich (himself a volunteer for the past 15 years) says that over 200 local families are served each week by the Pantry and its volunteers.

The Dedham Middle School's 30 homeroom teachers, collected and kept track of hundreds of donations, and students recently came in before school to pack and organize the goods.

With the help of a number of parent volunteers, arrangements were made to load and deliver the items to the Food Pantry.

The Dedham Food Pantry is located at: 600 Washington St. in the Dedham Plaza.

If you are able to help – with monetary or food donations – please call them at: (781) 320-9442 or stop by any Saturday morning between 8am – 11am or pleasemail to: Dedham Food Pantry – P.O. Box 46 – Dedham, Ma. 02027 Great job by the Middle School and remember that every donation “helps.”
