The Jubilee Tree will be filled with wonderful holiday ornaments along with gift certificates and items donated from local Dedham merchants.

The first annual Dedham Tree Jubilee with be held on November 30 from 5:00 to 9 p.m. in the lobby of the Dedham Community Theater.
Sponsored by the Dedham Junior Woman's Club, in conjunction with the Dedham Square Circle Holiday Stroll, the Dedham Tree Jubilee event will be raising funds for the Dedham Food Pantry.
Along with the ten decorated artificial trees to be raffled off, holiday strollers can also take chances to win the Jubilee Tree.
The Jubilee Tree will be filled with wonderful holiday ornaments along with gift certificates and items donated from local Dedham merchants.
There will be gift certificates from Maribu, Anthony Frederick's Hair Salon, Mary Kay Cosmetics, Prime Honda, Shaw's Supermarket, Kouzina Estiatorio, Bella Baskets, Vintage Times, and others.
Raffle tickets for the Jubilee Tree are $5 each. Raffle tickets for the other decorated trees are $1 each or 6 for $5.

Does it really kill this town to acknowledge Christmas. They are Christmas trees, they are Christmas ornaments. Is that really difficult. It's not even about going against political correctness it's plain and simple common sense. I can understand calling it the Holiday Stroll, it takes place between Thanks Giving and Christmas, but come on.

Check out Leviticus 25:8-13 for reference to the Jubilee. Increasingly, Jubilee celebrations are being used not for the biblical purpose of forgiveness of debts but as a way for those with means to provide to those with little means. In other words, there's a positive and biblical link between the word "jubilee" and the Food Pantry's purpose. Part of the positive spirit of the holiday season. Like the "Giving Tree" for children's gifts at St. Susanna's.

The reason that it is called the Dedham Tree Jubilee is because we were trying to think of a catchy phrase with some rhyme and rhythm and that is what we decided on. It has nothing to do with this so-called "war on Christmas". It is meant to bring some more enjoyment to those who come down to the square for the Holiday Stroll and to raise funds for a much needed service provided by the Food Pantry.

Personally, I would enjoy it more if it was called a Christmas tree. After all, if Christ had not been born, we wouldn't even have a need for a tree. Sorry, I hate people using Christ's birthday as a money maker or a reason for a "catchy phrase."

The money we make from this event will be going to the Dedham Food Pantry. Somehow I don't think Christ would be upset with that, after all didn't he instruct us to care for one another? He probably wouldn't be bothered by the name of the fundraiser either.

St. Susanna's church calls their tree used to gather Christmas gifts for the poor the "Giving Tree."
