However, without backup, the officer did not make a stop.

Barry Tremblay returned to his car one or two minutes later, took off a sweatshirt and the Nissan exited the Allied Drive parking lot. A marked police car pulled the Nissan over on Allied Drive because a search of Lauren Tremblay's license came back as suspended, reports stated.

Police immediately found two "freshly cut" catalytic converters at Barry Tremblay's feet, and upon a more detailed search found another catalytic converter and tools to cut the car parts, according to police reports.

Catalytic converters are appealing to thieves because of the value of scrap metal, Chief Michael d'Entremont said in a recent interview.

According to reports, police recovered wet clothing they had seen Barry Tremblay wearing, which police stated got wet when he laid on the ground stealing the converters.

Despite the arrests, Dedham Police are continuing to investigate the sudden spike in converter thefts, which date back to early November.
