   Where/When: At the Dedham Community House this Friday from 7 to 11 p.m.
   Why go:  To revel in the spirit of Mardi Gras, beads and masks and all (available at the door), and welcome the dawn of spring with open arms and cocktail attire. Creole cuisine will be provided by Whole Foods and proceeds will support the Dedham Community House.
   Pricing: $40/person in advance; $45 at the door; any donations
3. "Feeling the Beat, Feeling the Spirit"
   Where/When:  At the Dedham Community House gymnasium Saturday from 2 to 3 p.m.  
   Why go:  To embrace the spirit of music through sing-along and dance with the aid of multi-instrumentalist and instrument-crafter John Root; take-home lyric sheets and instrument-making instructions might add further incentive for any parents and children in need of a hobby or afternoon activity.
   Pricing:  Free.
4. Barry O’Malley Solo Acoustic Performance
   Where/When: Friday evening at the Village Manor.
   Why go:  To hear the acoustic stylings of a true Irishman, playing covers of Springsteen, Bob Marley, as well as some traditional Irish tunes; get your St. Paddy’s on in advance.
   Pricing:  Free, assuming sobriety.
5. Mardi Gras Party 
   Where/When: This Saturday from 7 to 9 p.m. at St. Lukes Evangelical Lutheran Church.
   Why go:  Yet another chance to enjoy the New Orleans-based festivities, sans the more risqué traditions, and celebrate the coming of spring with fellow community members.
   Pricing: Free
